Working Together to End Global Hunger

East End United, in partnership with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank and other Danforth churches, is fighting World Famine through a “Growing Project” sponsorship with a local farmer in Stouffville. We raise funds which are used to cover all the costs including seeds, fertilizer, other inputs, land rental and support services, of 10 acres land for growing crops. The crop is then sold and proceeds are given to Canadian Foodgrains Bank and put to work in food assistance and food security projects, multiplied up to 4 times with government funds in the process, in countries like Sudan, Ethiopia, Syria, Haiti, and others, where access to sustainable food sources is a constant challenge for millions of families.

Canadian Foodgrains Bank’s goal is to end world hunger. Canadian churches work toward this goal by: providing food in times of crisis for hungry people in the developing world; helping people grow more food to better feed themselves and their families; and providing nutritional support to malnourished people with a focus on pregnant and breastfeeding mothers and young children. CFGB also advocates for public policies that enable families and communities to better feed themselves, and look for ways to engage and educate Canadians about global hunger. 15 Christian denominations are the members and owners of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. This includes the United Church of Canada, the Anglican Church through their Primates World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF), the Presbyterian Church in Canada, through Presbyterian World Service & Development, and the Roman Catholic Church through their Development & Peace organization. They are the ones who put funds to work in their projects overseas.. Although many growing projects are found in rural areas, urban churches get involved by partnering with farmers in nearby rural areas to provide funds for inputs, or by donating to the project’s overall fundraising goal. This is an excellent way to bring urban and rural Canadians together over a common goal of helping people who are hungry. Please click the buttons below to find our more information about the Canadian Foodgrains Bank as well as the United Church's Food Security initiatives.

Support Danforth Grow Hope

Financial support is much needed and always welcome.  $600 supports one acre of land for crop growing.  $100 can feed a family for a month.  There are many ways that you can support Danforth Grow Hope to raise funds.  Community fund-raising drives, field visits, raising awareness and making a financial donation.
